| THE BERLIN GUITAR ENSEMBLE is a group of guitarists from all over the world, ranging from beginners to professionals, the group began working together in 1992 in Berlin and toured Germany widely until 1996 as part ofthe Guitar Circle Seminars that took place in Grossderschau (Neustadt Dosse) during that period, the team is always changing and moves from 7 to 24 players. All work is done on acoustic guitars, using amplification or playing unplugged depending on the individual performance situation, the BGE Repertoire is extremely wide and moves from traditional classical and folk pieces to rock standards and own compositions. All players use the NST (New Standard Tuning) which allows for a wide range of tonality, very much like a string ensemble but far away from it's traditional functioning. The Grossderschau Recordings, a CD including several BGE performances between 1992-1996 was released in August 2000, the tour team was represented by players from Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Japan and USA. A series of BGE Projects began taking place in the Villa Ruhe (Alfeld, Germany) in 1998 and the team has worked and performed around the area several times together with LGA (Los Gauchos Alemanes) in the most varied performance locations during the last 2 years: Hospitals, Pubs, Homes for the Elderly, Clubs, Asylums, Open Air Concerts, Festivals, etc. The BGE worked in the Villa Ruhe until the Summer 2000 and then moved their activities to Sassoferrato Italy during 2001 and early 2002, the group will be recording and performing again in the Alfeld area during the summer 2002 and will be active in Spain during the winter 2003.The Alfeld and Sassoferato recordings (including a tour of Italy in the winter 2001) were released in January 2002 as The Berlin Guitar Ensemble cd. During the summer of 2002 the Ensemble worked in a GC Performance Project in Germany, several new players were included, a small and intense acoustic tour was part of the Project. The BGE will meet again for further work in Spain, January 2003. |
